It was so good to meet lots of lovely couples at the Woolas Barn Wedding Fair in January. We heard about so many amazing wedding plans, and it was great to chat about how we can help capture your special day. Woolas Barn is such a beautiful venue, and seeing it filled with so much excitement and creativity today was inspiring. Thank you to everyone who stopped by. It was an absolute pleasure meeting you all! And a huge thank you to Woolas Barn for hosting such a fantastic event.

Four-time winners UK Photographer Of The Year
We’re a married couple ourselves and we’ve won many awards for our wedding photography. These awards have led to us being recognised internationally for our work – and we’re now invited, as educators, mentors and experts in wedding photography, to present at photography conferences all over the world. This feels pretty surreal and humbling for two photographers from East Yorkshire – but makes us very proud, too.
Our national awards include being named the UK Photographer Of The Year by: TWIA, Masters Of Wedding Photography and This Is Reportage (twice). This Makes us four-time winners of the UK Wedding Photographer Of The Year award. Some of our awards – national and international – are collected below. So if you choose us to photograph your day, you’ll be choosing one of the most awarded wedding photographers, not just in the local area, not just the whole of the UK, but internationally, too.

Why we love Woolas Barn
We’ve had the privilege of photographing a number of incredible weddings at Woolas Barn before and already have more to look forward to (right now, six more Woolas Barn bookings across 2026 and 2027). It’s a venue we truly love. Its rustic charm, stunning countryside views, and warm, inviting atmosphere make it a dream setting for capturing unforgettable moments. Every wedding here is unique, and we’d be thrilled to come back and photograph your special day there soon. If you do choose Woolas Barn as your venue, you will have picked an incredible location for your wedding, run by a lovely family with a team that will make sure you have the best day ever.

Wedding photography is an investment
We believe wedding photography is one of the most important investments you can make for your big day because the memories it captures last a lifetime. While the cake is eaten, the flowers fade, and the decorations are packed away, your wedding photographs remain a tangible reminder of the emotions, connections, and beauty of the day. So we recommend investing in the very best wedding photography you can. By choosing us, The Mateers—award-winning wedding photographers—you’re ensuring that every moment is captured with artistry and authenticity. We take real pride in creating images that will tell the real and authentic story of your day. Here’s a behind the scenes shot of Hollie photographing a beautiful local wedding.

Frequently asked questions
Have you shot our venue before? We travel all around the world with our job – and feel very lucky to say that. Last year we were in Athens one weekend, London the next, the Lake District afterwards and then back to Yorkshire before heading off to Cyprus. This year, we’re heading off Belgium, France and all around the UK. So, we travel to new venues all the time – and we love that. If we’ve not visited your venue before, we’ll love visiting it for the first time. And if it’s a venue we know and love, we can’t wait to go back!
We love your natural style, but do you shoot group shots? Yes! People book us for our documentary photography – it’s something we do like no other photographer and that’s why we’ve won the biggest awards in world wedding photography for what we do. However, most couples still want a few group shots too and that’s absolutely fine – it’s your day and we want you to be happy, that is the single most important thing to us. We promise though that group shots will never take over your day. 99% of our work is completely natural – beautiful, funny and emotional moments happen at every wedding without the need to stage things. Group shots are completely optional to you, too – if you don’t want any, you don’t have to have any. If you do, we’ll happily take them for you. The whole process of working with us is completely relaxed and it enables you to get on with you having the best day ever and allows us to get on with doing what we do best: capturing so many moments for you.
Are you insured, do you have back up equipment and do we get a contract? Yes, yes and yes! We’ve been doing this together for 8 years now and ensure every part of our business is run to the highest standards, from the images we take down to the customer care we provide before, during and after the wedding. Insurance and a contract is the beginning of this – the incredible images we’ll take of your day, then you receiving and loving them – that will be the culmination of the days and days of work we’ll put into documenting your day perfectly. Please check out well over 100 google reviews to read more about the amazing service we always provide every couple.
Do you take couple shots? Yes! Like group shots they’re completely optional – and we keep our couple shots relaxed, it’s not a stuffy portrait shoot – no cheesy poses! Check out some examples of couple shots on this page. Most couples want some moments capturing of just the two of them together and we love to take them. Just like group shots, couple shots won’t take over your day – no dragging you away from your party for hours. A relaxed walk around your venue is all we need to capture some beautiful moments of you two together.

Some more of our award winning wedding photography
We’ll leave you with some more of our award winning wedding photography, captured at wedding across the UK and abroad. We like to think that our wedding photography stands out as a little different – we capture moments artistically, but we also ensure we capture the essence of every wedding day we’re part of. Our images really show people for who they are – we show a wedding authentically. We do this by capturing all the humour and emotion of a wedding day – all the tender and beautiful moments, plus moments that were completely unexpected, too. So whatever you plan – whether it’s the most intimate wedding to the biggest party – your day will be uniquely yours and we’d love to photograph it for you. Hollie & Patrick, The Mateers.
