Annie and James – a beautiful wedding at The Normans in North Yorkshire

June 25, 2019

This was our first wedding at The Normans in North Yorkshire – one of the premier wedding venues in the region. So, we had been looking forward to the day! It really didn’t disappoint as Annie and James had planned such a wonderful occasion at this beautiful location.

As a proud Yorkshire Wedding Photographer, we love being able to visit new locations in our local area. We knew that The Normans – which is just outside York, itself home to so many beautiful wedding venues – had a reputation for a beautifully and intimately lit ceremony room. We also knew it was said to deliver a fantastic guest experience, with it’s self contained courtyard and various adjoining stables and rooms meaning those who attended a wedding at The Normans were able to easily reach all the parts of the venue. All this was true – and more! The Normans really has a great flow to it as a venue and the way it’s been set out has been carefully thought through. Then, it is surrounded by beautiful countryside. To say we loved it as a venue would be a vast understatement. We have more weddings booked at The Normans in the years to come and already cannot wait to return.

Annie and James’ day was beautifully styled and decorated, with some really pretty vintage details. Also, Annie had picked out a really stunning wedding dress – Annie looked so beautiful and James was equally dapper. Both got ready at their parents houses and we joined them for some relaxed getting ready photos. No posing as ever – we just stayed in the background, capturing the excitement of the preparations as the bridal party and the groomsmen got ready. After Annie put on her dress, we photographed a very emotional moment as Annie’s dad saw her in her dress for the first time. Then, it was off to The Normans! The famous ceremony room really is a beautifully intimate place for a wedding service. The candles and fairy lights make for perfect ambient lighting for our natural style of photography. There were tears and laughter during the ceremony – it really was a beautiful service to photograph.

Then, we accompanied Annie and James as they took a walk to a nearby field to spend a little time alone together. We always would recommend doing just this – on a wedding day, it’s easy to talk to everyone apart from the person you just married! It’s such an exciting day, but also, a very hectic one. This quiet and romantic stroll made for a perfect setting for us to capture some natural and relaxed couple shots of our happy couple together. We then made our way back to The Normans for ice cream and drinks. The ice cream was a lovely addition, with both the younger and older guests getting involved!

Afternoon tea was served just before the speeches, with everyone enjoying the delicious sandwiches and cakes (thanks so much for providing us with some food guys – so kind of you, it was lovely!) Despite a few worries about the weather, we were treated to a beautifully sunny day throughout. So, after the speeches – which went down so well! – everyone made their way outside to the courtyard for more drinks. We love this period of the day, with everyone relaxed and enjoying themselves – be it chatting, playing games or having a sneaky nap, as pictured below!

Then it was onto the first dance – again, beautifully lit by fairy lights. There was no need to for us to use flash to capture the first dance as we really wanted to preserve the effect the fairy gave. Lastly, as if the day was already perfect enough, we saw that we were being treated to a glorious sunset. So, we followed Annie and James out for another walk around the surrounding field and were able to capture some really stunning sunset photographs for them. Annie and James are such a lovely, kind and caring couple and as the photos show, they are very much in love. We were thrilled that we are able to cap off the day for them with a few photos in front of the beautiful sunset. We are so pleased Annie and James loved all their wedding photographs – they supplied us with the following 5 Star Review: “M and G Photographic produced amazing photographs for our wedding. They created a relaxed environment for all the photos and group shots but dealt with the day very well. We love their personalised style too. Great, unique photographers!!”
