Louisa and George - Lake District Wedding Photography

Louisa and George had the most wonderful Lake District Wedding at a wedding venue that we really love: New House Farm. We got to know them a little at their (extremely cold!) Scottish pre-wedding shoot – then we could not wait to photograph their day.

We asked Louisa and George to tell us all about their wedding: “Keeping our wedding personal was really important as was family involvement. Georges mum designed and drew our table plan with scenes from our childhood. My sister Anna sang during our church service and our table centre pieces were Rosettes to incorporate my love of horses.

If we could have built a venue to capture our interests and personalities it still wouldn’t have been as fitting as new house farm! We are country people through and through so the house with its log fires, beautiful hunting paintings and period features was perfect for our taste. The area is also very sentimental to us as Georges spent many a childhood holiday in the Lorton Valley and around Crummock water. Hazel also put us at ease from the first time we met her so we knew we were in safe hands.

My favourite moment was disappearing off for our photos at Crummock water, after a morning of preparations it’s was lovely to have some time together and although we were being photographed we didn’t notice ! The scenery and weather was really kind to us and to catch a quiet hour as newlyweds in our special place was brilliant . Georges favourite moment was turning round in the church seeing me for the first time! Cute eh!

My dress was from the Bridal Courtyard in Glasgow and was by Kenneth Winston. It was totally different to anything I thought I wanted when I first thought of my dress and George definitely couldn’t have got his idea of what id wear more wrong! It was simple Satin A line, with a small embellished belt and beautiful v shaped back with delicate heading and pearls but what made it for me was the train! It’s was really easy to wear and dance in! Karen Rhodes did our catering and our guests still race about it when we chat about the day. My sister and her Partner kindly provided the beef for our roast which added a lively personal touch to our wedding breakfast, it was cooked to perfection as were the vegetables spuds and huge Yorkshire puddings. It really felt like a big old family meal which is just what we wanted. It was also great to see our guests carving it themselves y their table with chefs hats and aprons which was an added touch from the caterers, so thoughtful.

Amanda at Green Pea Studio did our flowers, she lives in the same estate as me and George so it was great to use someone local who grows all her own flowers. She knows us so well and it really showed, putting a phesant feather in the buttonholes and keeping everything really rustic and earthy. She did an amazing job of decorating the church, venue and the cake which all looked stunning.

The cake was made my friend and bridesmaid Claire, with a little added help from her daughter’s Stella and Charlotte who were flowergirls. Beautifully decorated by Amanda from Green Pea Studio and was a simple Victoria sponge for two of the tiers and lemon for the other”. Louisa and George also gave us the following amazing feedback on their wedding photography – thank you for the lovely words both of you! “From the moment we met Patrick for our pre wedding pics we felt at east and like we were meeting friends Neither myself or George enjoy being in front of the camera but come our wedding day we never noticed we were being photographed!! The pictures are incredible, capturing us our friends and the fantastic scenery while still being natural and having a laugh along the way!”

In every wedding blog we write, we like to highlight one image that as photographers, we really love. We love all the images from Louisa and George’s day, but this one the image below stands out for us. We have the legendary Nikon 14-24mm 2.8 lens in our camera bag. It is an absolute beast! So sharp and it produces such stunning images. However, it is a specialist lens and as it’s focal length is so wide, it isn’t suit to all weddings – we call it our ‘lake district lens’ in fact! So, for Louisa and George’s day, we were able to use it freely and the image we love the most is the one below. We stepped right back and shot this image as ever with no posing or staging. Louisa and George just enjoyed the view – and what a view!
