Chinese door games, Iraqi belly dancers, hundreds of guests – this wedding had it all! We have never photographed a wedding quite like this before and we had such a wonderful day with Zoe, Ibrahim, and all their incredible wedding guests. Every moment was full of life, laughter, and emotion, and we would happily do it all again tomorrow.
A unique fusion of cultures in Sheffield
What a day we had with Zoe and Ibrahim in Sheffield. Being a wedding photography team that travels across the UK and beyond, it can go months before we photograph a wedding near home, so it was a real joy to capture a celebration so close to Yorkshire.
This wedding was a beautiful fusion of two cultures. While we have photographed Chinese weddings before, this was the first time we captured a Chinese-Iraqi wedding, combining traditions from both cultures in a truly unique way. Getting ready: gifts, laughs, and surprises
The day began with Ibrahim preparing for the wedding and being presented with a Viking-style horn as a gift. This soon became a fun feature of the day, with many guests having a go at blowing it! Meanwhile, Zoe was preparing at her family home, full of excitement for the door games that awaited Ibrahim.
Chinese door games
Door games are a traditional part of a Chinese wedding, designed to test the groom’s commitment and willingness to prove his love. Ibrahim and his groomsmen faced some serious challenges, including eating spicy wasabi, taking chilli shots, and competing in playful physical challenges, all while answering tricky pop quiz questions. Meanwhile, Zoe cheered him on via FaceTime on an iPad.

A western ceremony with Iraqi traditions
After surviving the door games, Ibrahim and Zoe headed to Sheffield for a traditional western wedding ceremony. The service was intimate and full of love, providing a perfect moment to capture the emotional highlights of the day.
Following the ceremony, elements of Ibrahim’s Iraqi heritage came to life with mesmerizing belly dancing performances. Guests joined in for lively celebrations, and the dance floor stayed busy until the very end of the night.
