Chinese door games, Iraqi belly dancers, hundreds of guests – this wedding had it all! We have never photographed a wedding like this before and we had such a wonderful day with Zoe, Ibrahim and their many, many wedding guests. We photographed every emotion possible and we’d happily do it all again tomorrow!

What a day we had with Zoe and Ibrahim in Sheffield. Being a Yorkshire Wedding Photographer who travels across the UK and beyond photographing beautiful weddings, it can go months until we next photograph in our home county of Yorkshire – and it’s always nice to photograph closer to home! This though was a Yorkshire wedding definitely – Zoe and Ibrahim lived locally. However, this was a beautiful fusion of two cultures. We had photographed a Chinese wedding before, but never a Chinese-Iraqi Wedding! Bringing unique traditions from both cultures together created such an unbelievable day. Below you will find some of our favourite images from the day and the story of this stunning Yorkshire wedding.
The day started off with Ibrahim getting ready and being presented with a viking-esque “horn”. This gift became a feature with everyone seemingly having a go at some point! Then, it was to Zoe’s family home and to the one of the highlights of any Chinese wedding in door games. Door games traditionally are a test to see how worthy a groom is and how committed he is to his bride. Chinese grooms were made to go to extraordinary lengths before being able to be admitted to see their bide.
Chinese doors games usually include the consumption of unpleasant or strange food or drink. Ibrahim and his groomsmen had to ingest some seriously hot and neat wasabi and drink some chilli shots, have fisticuffs in the garden which were of good natured! Then, work together to carry a groomsmen up the stairs while answering some tough pop quiz questions. All the time Zoe watched on via face time on an iPad! Luckily Ibrahim succeeded and then it was off to Sheffield for a beautiful wedding service. The service was a traditional, western ceremony – but then afterwards, we had elements of Ibrahim’s Iraqi culture with some spectacular belly dancing. Then, we closed with some amazing dancing from all.
Every wedding we photograph is different and that’s why love our job. It goes without saying that we absolutely loved photographing this wedding day. We hope you enjoy looking through just a few of our favourite images.
