We loved photographing this wonderful Yorkshire wedding. Kailing and Joschka had a beautiful Leeds church wedding ceremony. Then, it was onto Bolton Abbey Pavillion for the reception. And what a fantastic party it was! Below you will find our favourite images from the day. All captured naturally, with no posing by Bolton Abbey wedding photographer M and G Wedding Photography.
Natural and relaxed wedding photography
Over the years we have developed a simple philosophy. That means no awkward posing and no staging moments. We just take beautiful, natural wedding photographs. This ethos is evident in all the images we took on Kailing and Joschka’s wedding day. Kailing and Joschka had the very best day. We let them relax and then captured all the fun moments that happened naturally. By not posing or prompting things means we can concentrate on documenting everything artistically, in our trademark and award winning style.
A celebration from Leeds to Bolton Abbey
This uniquely wonderful wedding day took in not one but two fantastic Yorkshire locations. Starting off in Leeds, then travelling over West Yorkshire to Bolton Abbey. It’s always so great when a wedding is split across more than one venue. It means we have multiple locations to work with and capture images at. Being a Yorkshire based photographer means we know both Leeds and Bolton Abbey well. In fact, we used to live in Leeds, so are more than happy to take any opportunity to return. West Yorkshire is certainly metropolitan with the historic city of Leeds at its heart.
The perfect day for a wedding
Kailing and Joschka planned a day taking in travelling to two locations, with lots of walking included! This only added to the relaxed atmosphere. As we walked to the church in Leeds, people chatted and joked excitedly. Everywhere we looked there were smiles for us to capture. The weather remained dry all day long, but nicely overcast. Maybe not the ideal weather for sunbathing but the perfect weather for a wedding photographer! Overcast skies add some natural shade, meaning people don’t need to squint or avoid the light. So to summarise, we had a slightly dark but characterful sky, like a Paul Nash painting. Then a wedding party who just did not stop smiling. All in all, it was the perfect day to photograph a wedding!
Such a happy bride and groom
To call Kailing and Joschka a happy couple would be vast understatement. They laughed, joked and smiled with each other all day long. Kailing and Jocschka’s personalities compliment one another perfectly. We just stepped back and let them be themselves. So many funny, beautiful and unique moments happen at every wedding we attend. There’s no need to stage them. Kailing and Joschka delivered more than their fair share of fun moments for us to photograph! They had also surrounded themselves with family from all around the world. It was such a wonderful, happy day.
An emotional church ceremony
After a walk through the streets of Leeds city centre we arrived at the church. The service was full of every emotion you could think of! It’s not many grooms who take time to play a self penned composition on the piano. But Joshcka did and his performance moved many to tears. Joschka is an incredibly talented pianist. The kind of talent that stops you in your tracks and holds you there, just listening and watching in awe. There were many laughs too. Particularly when Kailing – more than a little smaller than her new husband – climbed onto a footstool for the first kiss. It has to be one of the funniest moments we’ve witnessed at a wedding. Everyone then crowded outside. Our happy couple were then greeted with a shower of bubbles, rather than confetti. Another beautifully unique moment during this beautifully unique wedding.
The historic Bolton Abbey
Bolton Abbey is an iconic site – and a beautiful sight! It is placed within gorgeous West Yorkshire countryside with a picturesque river running alongside it. Originally an Augustinian monastery, now Bolton Priory – or commonly known as Bolton Abbey – makes for a stunning backdrop for anyone holding their wedding reception at one of the many wedding venues nearby. Kailing and Joschka picked the Pavilion for their wedding party. And though they chose not to walk all the way to Bolton Abbey, there was still plenty of beautiful Yorkshire scenery nearby to explore. All the wedding guests certainly did explore! Many guests – and Kailing and Joschka themselves! – even took a paddle in the river. All these fun moments happened without direction from us. It was just one of those wonderful wedding days, from start to finish. It’s not often one of couples decide to spontaneously jump in a river, but it was a day to expect the unexpected. After some tearful – yet very funny – speeches, it was onto the dancefloor. We left with everyone enjoying the live music provided by wedding guests themselves. What a marvellously individually perfect wedding day. It’s an honour to have been the one to have photographed it all.
