We’re proud to be recommended photographers at Woolas Barn, a beautiful wedding venue in North Yorkshire. We’ve been lucky enough to work there many times over the years and are booked to photograph four weddings there in 2026 alone. It’s a venue we always love coming back to. Not just because it’s such a beautiful place to photograph, but because the atmosphere and layout lend themselves so well to the kind of relaxed, documentary photography we love. There are so many opportunities for great photographs throughout the day, from the big moments to all those little moments that we love to photograph. Those little moments that you as a couple might otherwise miss. Here are some of our favourite images from our 2025 & 2026 Woolas Barn weddings.
Why we love Woolas Barn
There’s something about Woolas Barn that makes it such a great place to photograph a wedding. It’s beautiful without feeling overly formal, and there are so many opportunities for great photographs throughout the day. Most importantly, it feels like a place where people can relax, have fun and properly enjoy themselves. That kind of setting lends itself to capturing the very best natural moments for you and your guests.
Documentary wedding photography
We’re The Mateers, and our approach is rooted in documentary wedding photography. We want to capture your wedding as it really happens. The laughter, the emotion, the little moments you didn’t see and all the brilliant stuff that happens in between. We’re not interested in turning your wedding into a series of staged moments. We’d much rather let you enjoy the day while we quietly photograph everything as it unfolds.
But yes, we’ll take some beautiful portraits too!
Documentary photography for us doesn’t mean no portraits. We will absolutely love creating beautiful photographs on your wedding day. We’ll take you away for a little bit of time to make some relaxed, natural couple portraits, without turning it into a big production. You’ll never feel like you’ve been away from your wedding for hours. We’ll also make sure we photograph your family and friends with some group photographs too, if you’d like some. We think there’s room for all of it. So we’ll capture so many completely unplanned moments but also make sure we make time to capture some beautiful portraits for you, too.
