bride and groom exiting Wrenbury hall while wedding guests throw confetti

Hi! We are Patrick and Hollie Mateer, otherwise known as M and G Wedding Photography. We live in East Yorkshire with our lovely family. From our Yorkshire base we photograph weddings all over the UK and abroad.

We take a natural approach to wedding photography - no posing and no staging. This relaxed way of working lets you forget about us and get on with what's really important - having the very best day ever. Our approach also allows us to concentrate on capturing the best moments and little details of your day in an authentic and creative way.

We want you to plan your day, exactly as you want it. Then we'll fit in around it all, taking the very best images possible of your wedding - romantic images, poignant images, funny images. We don’t use a template for what a wedding is or what the images should be. What's important is you and your guests having the day you want. This overarching ethos supports our unique style of wedding photography - artistic, bold images that stand out from the crowd. So, if you're looking for relaxed wedding photographers who take beautiful photos that capture all the emotion of your day, we'll be a great fit for you.

As well as the raw emotion, the humour and the unexpected moments that make up so many of our images, we will also take some images of you together, if you'd like some. We make sure our couple shots are an extension of the way we photograph the rest of your day - we keep them relaxed and all about you. That means no posing or directing from us. You just go for a walk, enjoying some intimate moments together away from the crowd - and we do the rest!

Yorkshire wedding photographer travelling all over the uk and abroad

In our work, if you’ll excuse the phrase, we marry a documentary approach, with artistic sensibility and high levels of photographic technique to produce art level photographs. Not just shots of the day, but images in which colour, texture and pattern come together with the subject to create arresting images. Not just snaps that can be shared on social media, but images which can be enlarged and hung on a wall. Our work is timeless. We may wield a camera rather than a paintbrush, however, we take the same artistic approach as any painter.

We live in Yorkshire and know how to get the very best artistically out of the locations that surround us – however, the same goes for all locations and all venues. We use a location as a blank canvas – wherever it is. It’s the people and their actions that let us paint the scenes we do.

We have honed our skills of composition - balancing and contrasting the formal elements of a visual image - within our documentary approach without losing spontaneity. While we search for those unique moments (which could be facial expressions, gestures or a grouping of figures), we look for the exact angle, the perfect focal point to bring the background and foreground details into the composition of the picture, or blur them out. Alternatively, we hone in on details, always looking to present them within the context of your day. It’s a multitasking approach, always challenging, but one which creates the ultimate pictorial experience for you.

We love to document weddings all over the UK and abroad. Here are just some of the wedding venues where we love to photograph.

Whether we've photographed at your venue 10 times before, or if your wedding will be our first visit, our approach never changes. Whatever the location, whatever the venue, we take beautiful and timeless images and we document real moments.
